UPDATE: 18th July 2014. Good news, an English couple were looking on your web site for some thing, not a Dog, and the wife saw Basil, she phoned me up & came this morning with her husband, Basil was outside free with other dogs, they liked him straight away & didn’t bother to go inside to look at any others. I told her he came in as a very young pup & Fran took him to foster him we knew his chance of surviving at the kennels were very slim. Well they are coming to take him home tomorrow. I phoned Fran she is so happy & thanks to you both for putting him on the Always Manana web site, it as been a while since he went on there, it just took some one to see him & really want him. Again a thank you so much. Mave xx
19th July 2014. Sending you a photo of Basil, who is now called Branston !!! Neil came today with his eldest grandson to collect him, they had not told them they were coming to get him. Mave xx
April 2013: Well I have taken a few photos from the kennels if you could show them for a.r.c.a., we had 6 pups & 4 adult dogs in 2 days, we really need to get more adoptions hopefully we may have some success.
This is Basil, he was found by the police, they thought it was just a bag of rubbish until they heard him whimpering, he was only 4 weeks old, we knew he would need special care, my friends Fran & Graham took him home & thanks to their dedication to fostering, he survived.
Basil is now 10 months old, he has some Labrador in him & a very gentle loving dog. After such a sad start to his life, Fran would love to see him adopted & in a loving home which he really deserves. If you are able to give Basil a second chance please call or text me. Mave, ARCA 678975816.

Oscar was a very frightened dog and would cower in a corner or hide in the bedroom when we first had him. Now he is very happy and very much loved by us. He is an important part of our family now. Caz and Tony
We fell in love with sina and her big ears the moment we saw her. We were a bit cautious because of her being a Podenco and a hunting dog. Best Choice we made. She is gentle and loving and has a character that keeps us smiling all the time. Caz and Tony
Having retired & sharing our time between England & Spain, we decided to look into the possibility of a rescue dog to be a member of our family. And, so on the 25th of April 2012, we visited Arca and found Elsa, the one year old equivalent of a Spanish Border Collie. She had been rescued by Mave from the streets of Tortosa, a desperately hungry, frightened young dog.
After a few days of very timid behaviour she gradually learned to trust us and her true character began to emerge. To describe her as both very intelligent and obedient nowhere near does her justice. She has a wicked sense of humour and her attempts to get a reaction from us is accompanied by violent tail-wagging and a huge grin.
Last year we moved to France and soon found we had a tri-lingual dog understanding Catalan, French and English !
France is easily her favourite place and it is wonderful to observe her joy and pleasure of simply being alive when she accompanies us on the morning walk to the beach. Chasing seagulls is a great game!!
Quite simply her tail seems to permanently wag.
Thank you Mave. Thank you Arca.

My partner Peter and I moved to Spain in January of this year, having been staying part time for six months or so. We knew that as soon as we settled we wanted to get a dog and that we wanted it to be a rescue, due to the large number of homeless dogs we have seen and heard about since moving to Spain. We contacted Mave via the Olive Press online and arranged to visit a few days later.
We arrived to be greeted by Mave, who we are so impressed by. She is completely dedicated to the welfare of the dogs in her care and is tireless in her work of fundraising and raising awareness of the plight of the rescue dogs. The centre had around 250 dogs of all ages and I can honestly say they were all a joy to see. They all seemed happy and cared for, a huge task but one that seemed to be happening. We were invited to walk a dog of our choice and as Peter and I had both fallen for different dogs, we took two out. We had a lovely walk with them and decided to keep them both.
Luca is a three year old ex-hunting dog and Zade is a three month old puppy. They are totally different to each other as Luca has had a hard life up to now, with little love and Zade is just a baby so he knows no better yet. They had never met but have taken to each other so well and are now inseparable, although Luca could do without Zade’s youthful exuberance sometimes! They have given us such joy and we couldn’t be without them.
Arca Tortosa have been wonderful. The cost of adoption includes vaccinations, identity chipping and neutering, which is a remarkable extra, considering the small adoption fee. Mave and the other staff show real love for all the dogs, even knowing most of them by name. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a dog.
I have attached some pictures of our boys. Please feel free to use any part of this email to good use on behalf of Arca, including the pictures.
